Aurélien François Shines in Debut Super League Season
In his debut season with Cercle de Joachim, Aurélien François was crowned top scorer and “most promising player” for the 2023-2024 season. Although he isn’t planning to leave the club yet, the 20-year-old striker dreams of playing for an international team soon.
Aurélien François’ Stellar Performance
Aurélien François’ performance this season has been outstanding. As the top scorer in the Super League with 16 goals, he played a crucial role in leading Cercle de Joachim to win the championship. He also scored the decisive goal in the Republic Cup final, securing a victory against AS Rivière-du-Rempart. These achievements earned him two awards at the 2024 Football Awards, organized by the Mauritius Football Association at the Ocean’s Creek Hotel in Balaclava.
Awards and Recognition for Aurélien François
He received the Super League top scorer trophy and was named the “most promising player” for the 2023-2024 season. “I am proud to have won these trophies. It means a lot to me, especially since it was my first season in the elite. I worked hard to get here. I would like to thank my parents and everyone who has supported me in my journey so far,” said Aurélien François, the son of Tony François, a former Club M striker.

Aurélien François’ Future Ambitions
As the new season kicks off on October 20, Aurélien François will once again be a key player for Cercle de Joachim. However, he has not hidden his ambition to join a club abroad in the future. “I did not receive any offers during the last transfer window, which closed on September 30. It is my dream to play abroad in the future. In the meantime, I remain focused on the new season and hope to lift as many trophies as possible,” he emphasized.
International Experience
In March 2023, the Super League’s top scorer had a one-week trial at En Avant Guingamp, a French Ligue 2 team, which unfortunately did not result in a contract. However, Aurélien François made a significant impact at the Indian Ocean Island Games with the national team in Madagascar, scoring two acrobatic overhead kicks during the group stage against the host country and the Seychelles. Unfortunately, he missed the semi-final against Reunion Island due to an ankle injury.
Looking Ahead
Since then, Aurélien François has established himself within Club M. He plans to focus on the national team’s upcoming matches to attract the attention of international recruiters. “It will be up to me to prove why I deserve these individual trophies. Additionally, the Club M matches will give me the opportunity to showcase my abilities on the international stage,” he said. The next Club M match is scheduled for November against Hong Kong.
