The results of the 2024 School Certificate (SC) exams have been released, showing an overall pass rate of 72.65%. This represents a slight decrease compared to the 73.71% recorded in 2023. The Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES) announced these figures during a press conference held on Friday, January 17, following the official publication of the results on January 16.
Results Performance Analysis

The national pass rate of 72.65% reveals differences between Mauritius and Rodrigues. Mauritius recorded a pass rate of 73.25%, while Rodrigues had a pass rate of 64.21%. A gender-based analysis shows that girls had a pass rate of 74.57%, compared to 70.29% for boys.
A total of 12,527 candidates sat for the exams, including 6,909 girls and 5,618 boys. The exams were conducted in 125 centers in Mauritius and eight centers in Rodrigues.
Results Performance by Subject
Several subjects showed improvement this year. For instance, mathematics increased from 73.46% in 2023 to 75.18% in 2024. Business studies saw a significant rise, reaching 75.85% compared to 69.70% the previous year. Economics also improved, going from 79.41% to 80.27%. Other subjects that showed better results include:
- Fashion and textiles: 92.09%
- Food and nutrition: 78.55%
- French literature: 81.58% (compared to 77.01% in 2023)
- English literature: 78.81% (compared to 75.31% in 2023)
Remarkable Successes
Six academic institutions achieved a 100% pass rate. These are:
- Droopnath Ramphul State College
- Forest Side Secondary School (girls)
- GMD Atchia State College
- Mahatma Gandhi Institute
- Queen Elizabeth College
- Royal College of Curepipe
Other schools also performed exceptionally well, with pass rates above 97%.
Results Performance in Kreol Morisien
A total of 535 students took the Kreol Morisien exam as part of the National School Certificate. Of these, 503 passed, yielding a pass rate of 94.01%, slightly down from the 96% recorded in 2023. Girls achieved a pass rate of 94.57%, while boys had a pass rate of 93.33%.
Credit Distribution
The results also show the distribution of credits among students:
- 0 credits: 2,749 students
- 1 credit: 2,090 students
- 2 credits: 1,601 students
- 3 credits: 1,268 students
- 4 credits: 1,229 students
- 5 credits: 1,152 students
- 6 credits: 1,123 students
- 7 credits: 1,243 students
- 8 credits: 1,616 students
- 9 credits: 98 students
- 10 credits: 4 students
Distinctions and Aggregate Scores
Among the top students:
- 10 students achieved an A+ (aggregate 1)
- 24 students achieved an A (aggregate 2)
- 123 students achieved a B
- 237 students achieved a C
Other results: D (65 students), E (44 students), and unclassified (32 students).
11 students were absent from the exams.
Conclusion: An Insight of SC Results
Despite a slight drop in the overall pass rate compared to 2023, the SC 2024 results show progress in several key subjects, including mathematics, business studies, and economics. The performance of academic institutions remains strong, with six colleges achieving a 100% pass rate. Gender disparities persist, with girls continuing to outperform boys, a trend observed in recent years. Although the Kreol Morisien results slightly declined, the pass rate remains high, demonstrating ongoing interest and proficiency in the language.
